Magnolia Down Under Challenge #55

This week at Magnolia Down Under Challenges we are asking you to theme your creation around a SEASON - it's probably fairly obvious which season I went with - LOL.

I was really lucky to find this fabulous shadow box frame in an op shop (thrift store) recently. My daughter loves to find bargains amongst the clothing racks while I tend to fossic among the books and nick nacks on the shelves. The frame didn't need much work - I just had to open it up and remove the cheesy little wooden animals that were living in each square and give the glass a good clean.

Unfortunately I did find a problem with the frame - each square is only 3 1/4" high - and most of my Magnolia stamps were too tall! I had intended to do all 4 seasons - one per box - but these guys were 2 that fit and were both for Winter - so this became my "snow much fun" frame - LOL. There is icy glitter everywhere and I ended up sparkling for several days - LOL.

The best part was the depth of each frame - I managed to create a fun 3D effect in the "scene" boxes and pushed the other boxes up closer to the front by padding behind the DP - it's added a lot of interest and fun. All the DP is from Magnolia. I'm going to enter it in this month's Creatalicious Challenges where they're asking you to show something 3D - I haven't had a chance to enter over there for some time so it will be fun to play along - LOL.

Don't forget to to go and check out what other season's the DT have to inspire you this week at the Magnolia Down Under Challenges Blog - and check out the little prize parcel I've put together for some lucky winner!

And because today is my birthday AND because I've reached the incredible milestone of having 300 followers which is absolutely amazing and I'm grateful for each and every one - I've decided one random comment from this post will get this little prize parcel from me - it's a "pigeon pair" to the winner's prize I'm putting up at MDUC. There are 6 embroidered snowflake doilies/decorations I made, a pack of rhinestones, 6 charms and some Magnolia rubber - I'll announce the winner on Thursday, 22nd July - chosen because I'm a Thursday's Child with far to go - LOL.

Introducing Tickled Pink Stamps!

WHO is Tickled Pink Stamps????

Well if you haven't already seen the news on one of the other DT girls' blogs let me tell you! Kellie has revamped her Magnolia Down Under Online Store and is now TICKLED PINK STAMPS!!!! Wooohooooooo - I can't tell you HOW excited the DT gals are - we are now the "Pink Ladies" and have a whole new world of stamps to play with! There's also a brand new Tickled Pink Stamps Blog where we'll be having some fun challenges and tutorials along the way. Exciting news releases and updates will be on the blog too - so make sure you follow so you don't miss a THING! Kellie is stocking some fabulous new images from some other stamp companies and I created this beauty with one of them - Babette is from Kraftin' Kimmie.

To celebrate the name change and new adventure Kellie asked her DT to use pink in our creations so I've gone with hot pink which suits this saucy lass perfectly. Teamed with sensual black and heaps of sparkle Babette is ready to entertain. The sentiment is included with the stamp.

And don't forget the "new" store still has the personalised stamps - mine is only one of several gorgeous designs! They really finish off a card so beautifully - especially when you've put soo much into it! Kellie is having 15% off all stamps and with a HUGE 25% OFF the Magnolia Easter Collection as an OPENING SPECIAL (personalised stamps are not included in this). Kellie will also be re-introducing overseas postage for stamps only - so you gals from other countries will be able to order these personalised stamps soon too - wooohooo - you asked, Kellie answered!

I know you'll all be just as excited as we are with the change - so pop over and check out both the store and the blog - we'd love to see you!

I've used sketch #96 from this week's Friday Sketechers.

A Family Portrait ...Of Sorts!

I'm not quite sure who's family this is but I kinda like 'em. Today I have a card for you that originated from a challenge one of our newest Magnolia Down Under DT members set for the rest of the DT. The lovely Kylie set us a challenge to use MASKING! Of course she set this because she knew our wonderful Boss Lady Kellie has never used this technique - way to get in good with Da Boss Lady - LOL. Kellie added to our challenge by asking us to use stamps from different companies - can you guess why????????

I ended up using these stamps -
Baby Buds - Owie
Magnolia - Background
Kraftin' Kimmie - Charlotte and Doll

After I had worked out what stamps to use I had to work out how to present them! I had some faux wood I'd made for a previous challenge left over so the "portrait" idea evolved - the faux wood tutorial I used is HERE. I've actually raised the "frame" up on dimensionals to give the card some more texture - I must admit to missing "popping" up my characters! I must also admit it took me FIVE attempts to get them almost right - I forgot to mask one set, I didn't line the background up properly on another, a stamp smudged etc, etc, etc!!

I ended up using the FIRST one I stamped out - typical!!! The problem with this one was some ink got on the edge of my tree stamp and left some nasty black marks sitting up in the "sky"- soooooo - after all those attempts out came my paper snips and I cut the whole lot out and glued it onto some speckled blue DP - LOL.

The fabulous leaves and flowers I got from Magnolia Down Under and my personalised stamp, also from Magnolia Down Under, finish off my card!

I THINK I had fun - LOL - Thanx Kylie and Kellie for the challenge!

A Little Challenge from Da Boss Lady!

Kellie from the Magnolia Down Under Store is affectionately known by her DT as "Boss Lady" - hmmm, think I started that one - LOL. This week she has set us a little challenge - to use one of our GORGEOUS stamps from the Hoppy Easter Range - AND to use something we don't usually use! I've used Tilda with 3 Flowers here - and as I don't have much need for Easter cards I've shown how versatile she is and used her for a more general card.

I don't use faux stitching very often so I dragged out my white gel pen to fulfil the second part of Da Boss Lady's challenge. Apart from the CS and ribbon everything else was sourced from Magnolia Down Under - including the fabulous personalised stamps which will be available for a limited time only! And don't forget there's gonna be some excitement over at Magnolia Down Under - Kellie has made some changes and I can't wait to share everything with you SOOOON!
I've used this week's fabulous sketch from Just Christmas and Birthday Cards (#58) - I'm not sure if I'll get it entered over there in time - but the sketch was just what I was looking for.
This week's challenge over at Magnolia Down Under Challenges is to use stitching - real or faux - in your creation! For someone who doesn't use much stitching I've now done a card using BOTH types - LOL.

Have a GREAT week - with lots of time for fun!

Coming Soon to Magnolia Down Under

YAY - Kellie has the fabulous Fairytale Collection "coming soon" to her Magnolia Down Under Store. I've seen some of these beauties on other blogs and just LOVE them. This fabulous princess has often been coloured in soft, pastel shades - but I have discovered my copic colours are greatly lacking in these tones so my princess has been coloured in rich regal reds and golds. I've used my gold Spica pen on her crown and to give the yellows a touch more glamour.

The DP, doily, flowers and leaves all came from Magnolia Down Under - though the DP was from the Christmas range and isn't in stock - but there are some GORGEOUS papers there for your crafting pleasure anyway.

Hopefully we won't have to wait tooooo long for these beauties to be instore - but you can always sign up for Kellie's newsletter so you don't miss out when they DO come!

MORE NEWS!

Kellie has started her pre-order for the third issue of Magnolia Ink - A Midsummer Night's Dream. So if you don't want to miss out on YOUR copy pop over HERE and place your order!
AND THERE'S MORE!!!

Magnolia Down Under is going through some changes as of the first week in April. We are all so EXCITED about it and can't wait for you to see them all. But for a little hint, do you like stamps other than the gorgeous Magnolia's? Like....... Kraftin' Kimmie or Sweet November and MORE.....? Well as I said keep your eyes peeled and look out around the 1st week of April for a Magnolia Down Under CHANGE!

Playing With My New Magnolia Down Under Store Goodies!

The other weekend Kellie gave me a fabulous little box of goodies to play with - including some of the new items she's stocking in her Magnolia Down Under Store! I finally had a few minutes to have a play with them and this is what I came up with!

The mesh ribbon - which is a favourite of mine, the flower, the doily and the sunbonnet charm are all new items in the store - and they work in soooo well with the Magnolia DP and images. This image is "Wilma with Rose" from the Raising the Ceiling collection. After I had put this together I was thinking that the sunbonnet charm could be great for Easter too - an Easter Bonnet - or for a Mother's Day card - the list is endless really! Kellie also has a fabulous little boy's cap charm too....

I found an old dictionary at the Op Shop for $2 - and most of it is in great condition - until I started pulling pages out for backgrounds - LOL. But really - it's cheap DP and I LOVE the look!

I think this card will be heading off to my younger sister later in the month - she loves animals and I know she would prefer to see Wilma here than any of my Tildas or Edwins.

So don't forget to stop over at Magnolia Down Under and check out all the fabulous new goodies Kellie is stocking!!! Just be aware that unfortunately she's had to stop shipping internationally!

Magnolia Down Under Challenge #32 - Pink and Grey

What a fabulous colour combo we have for you this week at Magnolia Down Under  - Pink and Grey! This is also the first week back as a weekly challenge and also the first week that the DT has been split into 2 groups! So don't forget you only have until noon next Saturday to play along - Melbourne time!!!!

I used some wonderful Kaiser DP that was just the right pink and had the soft look I wanted. I've also used my fabulous new Martha Stewart punch for a bit of interest. And I know I don't use ribbon much - am trying to change that!!! - but I do LOVE this mesh - and I found one that was a bit thinner than the others, and grey - PERFECT!!!! My wonderful bow easy made tying the bows a breeze.

My nesties are layered up on dimensionals - and I ended up needing to pop 3 layers of dimensionals to support Tilda's feet and head!! The problem with Whisper White CS is that it's a bit thinner than most so it does need a bit of support! The best thing - it goes through my fussy printer when I'm doing digi's - if only my printer would take Kraft!!!! The fabulous flowers and leaves are from Bizzy Becs - with the exception of the large pink one.

This week the wonderful Kellie Winnell is sponsoring MDUC - check out the fabulous prize pack she's put together  - and then go and see what this week's DT group have been up to for inspiration. From the sneak peek I've had you WON'T be disappointed!!!! I know, I know - I say that EVERY challenge - but what else can you expect with this fabulous DT - LOL?!?!?!

Tilda For Your Telephone Table

I used to be soooooo good at remembering dates - but just lately I've been HOPELESS!!! So when Kellie sent her Magnolia Down Under Store DT a cute little calendar to play with I knew what I wanted to use it for - a "Memory Station" for me to keep by the telephone. My plan is to highlight important events in different colours (eg: blue for birthdays) so I can see at a glance what's coming up. The idea for these with a little drawer to hold a notepad and pen came from Camille over at Capture a Heart - you can check her version out HERE. Camille's version is a bit smaller than mine - I was going to put post-it notes in the drawer but I often find them too small for note taking while on the phone. I found these notepads at my local newsagent for 80c each - they measure 3" x 5" and I popped 2 into the drawer. The pen I got from the Stampin' Up Convention last year and is a little shorter than conventional pens - but I'm sure you can find something similar elsewhere.
If you're interested the box measurements are as follows - and then add an easel card to the top:

2 pieces 4" x 6 7/8" for the wrap - score at 3/4" and 6 1/8" on both and glue the small edges of 1 piece to the small edges of the other piece to form a wrap for the drawer to go in.

1 piece 6 3/4" x 5 1/4" for the drawer - score in from each edge 3/4" and form into a box. I also added an extra strip of CS behind the front of one long side for added support - this side will have the drawer pull attached later! The drawer pull is a SU Build-a-Brad with a bead behind it so you can grasp the handle.

For the easel card you'll need 2 pieces of CS - one will be 8" x 5 3/8" (the card - score along long edge at 4" and 6") and the other will be 4" x 5 3/8" (the top)

Please contact me if these instructions don't make sense!

Now as I was creating I did have my hubby wondering what I was up too when he saw me going through the Melbourne phone book! I wanted to have Tilda standing in front of a page from the phone book - just to tie in with my theme! And what other name should I be looking to find other than MAGNOLIA - LOL. Luckily there were a few entries so my plan took shape - you can see "Magnolia" just above Tilda's head in bold writing!!! The sentiment goes with the calendar theme too - it's all about important dates - times to cherish!
All the CS is from Stampin' Up. The DP and that fabulous green lace is from Magnolia and I bought them at Kellie's store - unfortunately they were part of the Christmas range so are no longer available but Kellie does have similar items in stock. She's also taking pre-orders for Sweet Tilda who I've used here - she's in the Raising the Ceiling collection. And of course I've used roses, leaves and a digital ticket stamp from Bizzy Bec's range.

This was a fun little project to create - now just to use it for it's intended purpose - LOL.

Playing With My New Magnolia Stamps!

I had a wonderful idea of how this would turn out in my head - but I just couldn't get it to live up to my expectations! Don't get me wrong - I'm still happy with it but I prefer the one that's still rattling around in my head - LOL.

I've made a recessed window card and the tutorial for these can be found on Splitcoast Stampers HERE. You can see the recess better in this picture on the left. It adds a wonderful dimension to your cards. This card is meant for a special friend and I really wanted to send her a spray of flowers and have Tilda present them in her own beautiful style. You can't tell from the photos but Tilda's drop earrings are made up of mini rhinestones and I've added some Ice Stickles to the hem of her dress, sleeves and the rose brooch. I figured this little gal needed some party bling as she was all dolled up!
The DP is from Magnolia's Lazy Summer range and is available at Kellie's Magnolia Down Under Store right now! I've paired the Magnolia papers with SU's Chocolate Chip and Kraft CS. Noble Tilda is from the newly released Raising the Ceiling range and is available for pre-order at Kellie's. The flowers and leaves are all from the fabulous Bizzy Bec's range - and the digi stamp is also from Bec's digital range.

New Magnolia Collection Available for Pre-Order

Magnolia has just released their new "Raise the Ceiling Collection" and Kellie has them listed for Pre-order at her store -  Magnolia Down Under .... so be sure to pop on over and have a look. I have several of them waiting to be inked up but there's always a couple more that don't come in the kits that I'm just going to HAVE to include in my collection - this Magnolia addiction is such a wonderful curse to have - LOL

Magnolia Down Under Christmas Swap

A few months ago Boss Lady Kellie came up with a fabulous idea for the Magnolia Down Under DT - we were invited to join in a Christmas card swap! The AMAZING creations that landed in my letterbox just blew me away - I knew these lovely lady's were talented but to see their work IRL has been incredible - I am honoured to be in their company! I am going to make myself an inspiration wall with these after I frame them up - a job for the New Year!

I also received some other gorgeous handmade cards and email Christmas wishes from other wonderful blogging friends - and for that I thank everyone - it has made my Christmas extra special this year!!! I hadn't blogged these earlier as I wanted to make sure the girls had all got theirs - but I thought I'd better blog them now or the Festive Season would be well and truly over - LOL!

A few weeks before Christmas I found these gorgeous wooden snowflakes in a little gift shop! My imagination took over and I knew I would use them for the swaps! I bought 3 different colours and decorated them with a layered snowflake, Christmas Tilda, some rhinestones and a ribbon bow! Now to make the card to go with them.....

I decided to re-size the "box and a card" I made here to create a card and packaging in one, the top opens up to be the card. I'm really happy with how it turned out - though there were a few frustrations along the way getting the drawer to fit just right!

Here you can see Tilda snuggled up in the drawer on some bubble wrap for the journey to her new home!

The handle for the drawer was a build-a-brad and I popped some Magnolia DP behind the bubble. The stamps, DP and gorgeous red lace ribbon all came from Kellie over at Magnolia Down Under Online Store. The CS and taffeta ribbon is from Stampin' Up. I used SU's chunky glitter on the large snowflake and Dazzling Diamonds over some liquid applique on the hat band and pom pom. I use a mix of Touch and Copic markers to colour!

I can't believe another year is almost done! I hope everyone is getting over their overindulgences of Christmas and are readying themselves for a new celebration to see in not only a New Year but a New DECADE!!! Have a safe and happy one.....

A Magnolia Down Under DT Challenge - Jodie

Kellie from the Magnolia Down Under Online Store had a fun idea recently - she has asked each member of her DT to take turns to come up with a challenge for the rest of the DT. Our very first challenger is the amazingly talented Jodie Turner who asked us to use our new Christmas stamps to create a Christmas invitation. We each receive a different stamp in out DT kit from Kellie and we have to use our own stamp on our project!!! I chose the Christmas envelope for my kit - I already had most of the other cuties on order - LOL. I have layered some of the holly leaves and the bow - it really does look better IRL. The holly berries have red rhinestones on for some fun sparkle.

The invite was made by stamping the sentiment (from SU's Sincere Salutations) onto some Whisper White CS before running it through my script embossing folder. I sponged the edges and over the raised script before rolling the corners over. The gorgeous DP is from Magnolia - I just love the texture and feel of this paper - it's soo easy to work with! The lace is also Magnolia - and trust me it's gorgeous!!!

All of my Magnolia supplies came from Kellie at Magnolia Down Under.

If you want to check out the rest of the DT's work here are the links to their blogs....

More Stamp Camp Fun

Apart from being wonderful company the girls at last weekend's Stamp Camp are also fabulous and inspiring crafters. I was very lucky to have the lovely Alison at my table - and she managed to produce close to 60 amazing projects for a stall she's having this Friday!!!!! She certainly stunned us all with her fabulous work. One of the items she made was a cute card/box. Alison got the tutorial for this from Dawn Rapsas at UStamp and we were lucky to convince her to have a break from her pile of projects and teach us too.
To make mine I used the gorgeous Tilda Wrapped stamp from this year's Magnolia Christmas collection. Kellie from Magnolia Down Under turned up to camp with my order - it was like Christmas opening up my parcel and having a play! The DP and flower are also Magnolia - from Kellie's store - although she's still waiting on the flowers to arrive for sale - this was from a sample pack she gave her DT. I have used a touch of red stickles in the flower centre for a bit of glitter and colour - it looks much better IRL!!!

The top of the box opens up and becomes the card - I've stamped a SU Christmas tree on the inside leaving space to write a note too. The little drawer came in handy too. I came home from camp with a pile of punched snowflakes and other goodies tucked away safely inside. It was sooo much fun playing with other people's tools - my Bow Easy (Bowezi) caused a lot of fun and giggles thanx to Kristy and Kellie - the terrible twosome - LOL
I loved this little box soo much I worked on resizing it to fit a project I was working on for a gift - I'll show you that when I can!

Hope all your Christmas plans and shopping aren't causing you too much stress!!!

Christmas Can Be a Cracker

A couple of weeks ago I was shopping with a friend and came across a really cute Christmas cracker made by Jessica Walker Chocolates. It came with a chocolate inside. I saw the potential and decided to buy it - much to my daughter's surprise when I got home and she exclaimed "You paid $3.95 for ONE chocolate!!!" I quickly explained she was welcome to the chocolate - I wanted the box as a template - LOL. I can thank the lovely Karen Thomas from Luv to Stamp for teaching me to look at packaging and it's potential. A friend recently thought I was a little odd when I raced to KFC to buy some Popcorn Chicken for the box after seeing Karen's fabulous project - LOL - check it out here. Of course my popcorn chicken box is hiding somewhere in my crafting space waiting to be used as a template - but I know it's there when I want it!!!

I took the empty cracker off to Stamp Camp on the weekend - it was actually made in 2 parts but I wanted to simplify it and make it from a single piece of card. I've worked out the dimensions for you if you want to make one for yourself - yours will work out a tiny bit larger as I wanted to make the measurements a bit easier to follow!

To decorate mine I used DP and lace from Magnolia - available at Kellie's Magnolia Down Under Store. The tag is one of Bizzy Becs new Digital Tickets available at Bec's new Digi Downloads Store. The CS is from Stampin Up - Kraft and Real Red. The flowers were from a local craft store.

Now here are the measurements for you - feel free to contact me if they don't make sense! The great thing about these Crackers is that you can open then up easily without tearing them by simply untying the ribbon bows in the valleys!

Cut your card 7" x 5"
Across the 5" edge score at 3/4", 1 1/2", 2 1/4", 3", 3 3/4", 4", 4 1/2"
Across the 7" edge score at 1", 1 5/8", 2 1/4", 4 3/4", 5 3/8", 6"
Embellishments as desired.

Use the shaded areas on this picture to work out where to remove CS. For the triangles I cut from halfway up the middle score line in the section - this doesn't need to be acurate and I just pencilled mine in - it's where the cracker folds in. This score line is also the only one to be a valley fold - the rest are all mountain folds. The line across the top with the rectangles removed is the tab for the join.
I hope you have some fun with these - I will be looking forward to seeing yours - please let me know if you make one!

Now I better go feed the hungry hordes and have an early night!! Stamp Camp was sooo much fun but I had waaayyyy to little sleep - it was a little hard concentrating at work today - LOL. I do have more fun things I made at camp to show you - but some of them are DT work so will have to wait a little!!!

Hope you all had a FANTASTIC weekend too...

Edit - When Bec saw this she realised she had the sentiment wrong - I certainly hadn't noticed had you??? This one says "the means you" instead of "that means you". She has since corrected it and re-sent it to all those who had already bought this set! So if you had noticed the mistake don't let it put you off buying these fabulous digital tickets.

A Challenge and Pink Ribbon Day

Kellie recently set each member of her MDU Store DT a challenge - she asked each of us to use a specific image that she nominated from the gorgeous YUMMY collection - I was asked to use the gorgeous Magnolia tea cup on a card or project. You can check out what the others girls came up with for their challenge here - and trust me - it's well worth the visit for some wonderfully inspiring creations! Kellie has also set a challenge for YOU - and you have a chance to win a $10 store voucher - check it out at the same place here.

I had originally planned to use one of my Tildas or Edwins and have them sitting on the tea cup - but I decided the tea cup was my challenge and should therefore be the star of the show! I've made a little kitchen shelf and popped a couple of the Magnolia tins on the top shelf. The cups are "hanging" from the shelf on rhinestone brads - with the exception of the one that's down and ready for boiling water to be poured over the "Tilda's Special Tea" teabag - I can just imagine it would have a wonderful fruity taste and aroma. I know - I'm a sad case - I like to imagine all sorts of things - LOL.

Kellie also has a special offer for you - one that comes from the heart and is very personal to me too - I've had 3 close friends suffer from breast cancer so next week's Pink Ribbon Day is a time for me to reflect on how lucky I am to still have these 3 amazing women in my life!

One in every nine Australian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer by the age of 85. It could be a mother, sister, aunt, cousin, niece or friend. Whoever they are, one thing they have in common is that they will all need our help and support.

This year, Cancer Council’s Pink Ribbon day is on Monday, October 26th. Pink Ribbon Day is your chance to help raise money and awareness for all Australian women affected by breast cancer.

For as much as we do to help improve survival rates and treatments, the fact is there is still so much more to be done. But by purchasing just one wristband you are helping in more ways than you could imagine.

Kellie has these wristbands listed in store HERE - they are not instore yet but they are on their way. Please take note of the code below as all postage on this item is free. Kellie is not out to make any profit from selling these and as a thank you, she is offering free postage. If you are to order a stamp it is STILL free postage. Papers, stamps anything - it’s still FREE postage if you order a Pink Ribbon Wrist Band.

**Please be sure to quote this code in check out PINK01 so you are not charged for postage

**PLEASE NOTE : This is a pre-order as they are on their way and will be posted to all that order them on their arrival asap.
