Red, White and Blue in La La Land

This week at La La Land Crafts we are going red, white and blue - or our own nations colours. Since the Australian flag is red, white and blue too I thought I'd stick with that - LOL. The only other option were our sporting colours - green and gold - but I don't think it's as nice a colour combo though!

I used the adorable Tricycle Marci  - off for a ride with her trusty friend in the basket. I mixed some different DPs together with some lace, dry embossing and of course flowers - my favourite embellishment. Don't forget to check out the rest of the fabulous DT inspiration on our BLOG.

Mo's Ragged Romeo

Isn't this just the sweetest image - it's called Ragged Romeo by Mo Manning and I've been wanting to colour this pair up for ages! I'm still practicing my shabby chic look and these 2 were a perfect match for that style. Maybe my new Zutter Distrezz-it-all is also just a little responsible for my new found love of distressing - it's just toooooooo easy to use!

Tickled Pink Stamps is Sponsoring Fab'n'Funky Challenges

This week Tickled Pink Stamps is sponsoring Fab'n'Funky Challenges and they are asking you to use "Stars and Stripes". Here in Australia "stars and stripes" and July 4th don't have the same meaning as it does for my American friends so I went off in a different direction. With it being the end of semester one of our school year here our kids have been getting their reports - and this is where my inspiration came from for this card. I've used Lil Little Lad Frankie in his cute uniform and embossed some stripes into the background as well as using striped DP before adding some layered stars for my #1 pupil.

We hope you get a chance to play too - you have a chance to win some Tickled Pink images for yourself.

Copics used - Skintones (E11, E00, E000) plus R39, R27, R24, R20, V25, V17, B18, B05, B00, E29, E27, E25, E23, E21, W7, W5, W3, W1

Trying Something New For Make it Crafty

Over at Make it Crafty we have a long list of challenges we have given ourselves to try out. Personally I believe that if we stop challenging ourselves we have no idea what we are actually capable of and we aren't giving ourselves a chance to grow as artists. I often find myself stuck in a rut with my layouts or colouring so challenging myself to try something new gets those creative juices flowing again.

I chose to "mimic another medium" using my copics to colour in the style of distress inks - using muted tones and lots of white. I'm not quite sure I've got it down perfectly but it was certainly a LOT of fun to try it out and that's what this whole process is all about. I used Suzanne Dean's series of Youtube videos for colour options and hints. One big difference I feel is the texture of the paper - you can "see" the texture of watercolour paper and I think that is missing from my image. Of course I may have given myself an extra challenge using Make it Crafty's amazing Rapunzel image to colour up....all that hair - aaaagh!

I partially framed my image with a Make it Crafty chipboard frame which I had painted with cream crackle paint and then spritzed with chocolate brown.

Magnolia Down Under Challenge #153

This week at Magnolia Down Under Challenges we are asking you to go "Shabby Chic". Some of the gals on the MDUC DT manage this style effortlessly - me not so much - LOL. Hopefully this will pass muster with it's distressed edges and eclectic mix of ribbon, lace and doilies. The lasercut chipboard dragonflies from Make it Crafty were my final "shabby" touch - I love these little guys!

Don't forget to pop over to the MDUC BLOG to check out "shabby chic" from some of the masters of the style!

Happy Birthday with La La Land Crafts

This week over at La La Land Crafts we are celebrating brithdays. I decided to use the gorgeous Telephone Marci as I know how often I used to pick up the phone to call people on their birthdays - although with technology changing I admit these days I usually send an sms or a message on FB - LOL.

One of the things I LOVE about La La Land stamps is the fun you can have with mixing colouring and paper piecing. I usually chose my DP first and then colour up the rest of the image to match - the paper pieces go on last.

Don't forget to check out the rest of the Birthday Fun by the LLLC DT over on our BLOG.

Mo's Amazing "Come Hither"

When this image first came all out all he was popping up all over Blog Land and I thought I would bide my time and colour him up later - he's just such a fabulous image that I KNEW I would have to play sometime though - LOL! In case you've never met him his name is "Come Hither" and he's by Mo Manning.

I kept the layout of the card fairly simple letting the DP do most of the work. After all - who needs distraction when looking at this guy with his smouldering good looks and flowing cape! The gold embellishment is one of a pair of clip on ear-rings I found at my local Op Shop (Thrift Store) - a GREAT place for finding bits and pieces cheaply!

Fun in the Sun with La La Land Crafts

This week at La La Land Crafts we are having some Fun in the Sun. I thought some bright colours and some sunglasses would be just the ticket - and with her umbrella in hand too Marci is ready for any weather. She must be a Melbourne girl - we can often have 4 seasons in one day here - LOL. Although many people do use umbrella's to keep the hot sun off too.

Check out the amazing work from the rest of the LLLC team on our BLOG.

It's Mo's Dream Team Blog Hop Time

As our wonderful team leader Jak says "Hold on to your hats ladies as it's that time again" - yup it's time for Mo Manning's Dream Team to get together and play. This month's theme is Ethnic Skin Tones and the gals are all saying it's MY fault as I am this month's host - LOL. I'm the start of the hop so you are in the right place to get going - and there are a couple of Mo prizes along the way too.

I thought this would be a fabulous theme as Mo has some absolutely gorgeous ethnic images - and some that can work either in light or dark skintones - and I wanted to highlight these. I chose one of my favourite images to play with - Sadie with Apples (available from Mo's old store)

Your next stop on the hop is the always marvellous Mina - but remember to check out the Dream Team Blog for regular inspiration.

In case you get lost the blog hop order is....
Debbie, Mina, Pops, Jak, Gretha, Kerttu, Jane, Julie, Heidy, Alice
