Aurora Wings New Release Showcase

Every now and again I get to join the Showcase Team at Aurora Wings and showcase a new image. I just love the Aurora Wings Sprites and this little cutie is the latest addition to the family. This is Mushroom Flower Sprite and she is available in either JPEG or PNG formats.

I had originally planned to do her in pinks - I guess because the sneak peek I saw had her in those tones - but it's Autumn here in Australia and after taking my dog for a walk I was inspired to use this colour scheme, I hope you like her.

Don't forget to pop over to the Showcase Blog to check out the rest of the amazing inspiration from the DT.

Tutorial - Creating Frames Using Paint.NET

Many of you know I tend to use digital stamps and when I created this card last week using Bloobel Stamps I had a number of people ask me HOW I created the frames around them. I figured if there was that much interest it was probably worth doing a quick tutorial for you - I hope it helps.

Note - click on the photos to get a better look ;)

I tend to work on square cards so I like the canvas I'm working on the be the same to get a better idea of how the finished piece will look. To do this you need to set your canvas size.

Use the pop up window to set the dimensions you want to work with.

Using the Rectangle Tool and a thin Brush Width rough in your first part of the frame. From here on in the "Back" arrow will be your friend if you quickly need to remove the last step you have done. Once you move on the the next step you can only go backwards step by step.

Increase the Brush Width and draw in your second part of the frame - this can take a little bt of practice as you can't move the frames or change their dimensions once they are drawn. If you don't like the look just go back and re-draw until you do. If you look closely mine aren't perfect but who noticed once the card was done??? ;)

To clear the inside of the frame choose the Magic Tool and click on the space.

Hit Delete and it will become chequered which means there is no covering there and it's clear. Repeat with as many frames as you need for your project.

Simply Save As your frame to use again and again...and it can be added to as needed.

Note - to keep the frame "cleared" of white space you MUST save it as a png file.

You can either layer your images in here or in Word. To do it in Paint.NET use the Import from File button under the Layers tab - you will need to resize your images but by dragging the corner while pressing the Shift key you will maintain it's proportions.

For my Bloobel card I coloured the space between the lines for a different look.

I have used the exact same steps here but I have made a single, larger frame and have inported the Aurora Wings digital image in behind it - the frame cleanly "cuts off" the image inside the frame letting you see what the finished result will be.

If you'd like to play with this here are the files I created for these two projects - simply click on them and save for your personal use  and ENJOY

I hope you have fun with this technique - my next challenge is to try it with circles ;)

I have also done more comprehensive tutorials using  Paint.NET which may help you understand it better and how the layering works, check them out - HERE and HERE

Aurora Wings Challenge #27

This week's challenge over at Aurora Wings is "Say it with Flowers".

I had so much fun with the little Pierrot Sprite card than I made here that when I was looking for an image to use for this challenge this beautiful one just seemed to call out to me. This is Harlequinade, an older image from Mitzi I believe, but absolutely gorgeous.

I used the same digi paper to mask her onto before adding a black border and printing her out. I gave the mask a little bit of definition with my shading and used a 2-tone look for the larger diamonds to make it look more vibrant. I then used those 2 tones in the main flowers, but separately this time. Lots of shine with the clear gelly roll pen and some rhinestones finished her off. I think this is such a theatrical image and thought the outline of rhinestones resembled stage lights - or maybe that's just my imagination running wild ;)

From this angle you can see the shine from the glitter pen better, but sadly the other colours appear more washed out. I love the feeling that her eyes are hiding but giving you a piercing stare at the same time. More of my imagination coming into play perhaps!

Don't forget to check out the rest of the AMAZING DT inspiration on our BLOGWe also have a very active Facebook Fan Group with additional contests, challenges and inspiration.  We hope to see you there.

Coffeeeeeeeee!!!

Yesterday I had a little bit of fun playing with some Bloobel Stamps. I love the quirky nature of these and when I saw Need Coffee I could totally relate to that feeling of needing a caffeine hit - I am such an addict now even though I didn't really start drinking coffee until I was 40!

When I popped into the shop to buy the Need Coffee image I spotted My Cup of Tea and the idea for my card was born. It reminds me a little of those memes where they show different versions of the same event from different perspectives LOL. I am not too sure of my wording though - but I only thought I could come up with something better when I was halfway through colouring it up so meh - it will do.

B&W with One Other Colour in La-La Land

This week in La-La Land we are going B&W with One Other Colour. Many of you may be aware by now that my favourite colour is lime green so it was really a bit of a no brainer for me what the other colour would be LOL.

There are lots of patterns mixed in the card but with the semi-monochromatoc look I think it works OK, especially given the shapes aren't too fussy.
