Aurora Wings Challenge #40

Woohooo it's time for another challenge over at Aurora Wings and this time we're celebrating .....

... my favourite time of the year :)

I love nutcrackers and have a bit of a collection on my mantle at Christmas time. I also have several decorations I have made myself over the years so decided it was time to put the 2 together and the perfect choice was to use Mitzi's The Nutcracker Doll. This really is one of the major pluses of digital stamps - being able to print to any size!

From my days as a Folk Art/Tole painter I am lucky enough to have a scroll saw - and a hubby who likes to use it. I printed and cut my image out at 11" tall and also cut an offset of my image which we traced onto a piece of 1/2" thick MDF before cutting him out.

I also decided to make a matching gift card so I cut him out at 4 1/4" tall too - before colouring them up the same and adding some gold glitter highlights. He looks sooo TINY next to his big brother LOL. I painted the wood black before attaching my coloured image using mod podge. I also sealed the image with mod podge before applying a paint on satin varnish to protect it. The only thing left to do is add a small stand at the back to make him more stable - hubby will be onto that after his overseas work trip ;)
And here is a close up of the finished card to go with him - he may yet be a Christmas present for someone and it will be nice to have the matching card.

OMG, Debbie! I just Love, love, LOVE this project! Amazing traditional coloring of the Nutcracker and I can just imagine how glorious he'll look on your mantel. Such professional workmanship. You should sell them! Take pix and share, please. And to do it all again for a matching card. Fabulous! Love your papers and fun sentiment. xxD

Love love LOVE your big nutcracker project, Debbie!! You've colored both the big one and the little one so beautifully. The dimensional look you capture with the highlights on the nutcracker is amazing! The design on the card is also fantastic. Thank you so much for this fabulous inspiration for our Christmas challenge at Aurora Wings! Mitzi xxx
