Time to get crafting in 2013!

Yay I finally managed to kick my butt into gear and spend some time playing in my craft room. The weather here is disgusting - extremely hot and windy - so I couldn't spend too long in there as it's doesn't have air con. I decided to sneak in there early in the day and put the layout together before sitting under the ac in the family room to colour up my image!

I started off the year with this cutie from Mo Manning - her name is Cupcake Princess Violet - and I went with blues and browns after being inspired by some gorgeous work I saw over the holiday break. You can't see it but her crown and sash are glittered with my gelly roll pen, and her skirt ruffle has glitter sprinkled on - she really sparkles.

Let's hope 2013 is full of creative fun and growth for all of us - and so it begins for me......

Mo's Dream Team Blog Hop

It's time for our last Mo's Dream Team Blog Hop for 2012 - can you believe how FAST this year has flown past!!! Our Hostess with the Mostest this month is the wonderful Jane - and all the fun starts on her BLOG - but if you are already hopping you should have arrived here from Alice's Blog. 

Jane has asked us to go CAS (Clean and Simple) - aaaaaagh! 

There was a little bit of discussion behind the scenes when Jane chose Clean and Simple with a lot of us wondering how much embellishment we could 'sneak on' and still have a CAS card - LOL. I decided to curb my natural inclination to throw on lots of layers and flowers by printing out the gorgeous Spring Fairy Aleta larger than I normally would and then simply popping on a sentiment and framing it all up. Oh OK - I did sneak a few rhinestones on too - LOL.

I also used a glitter gel pen to give a little bit of sparkle to her wings and skirt - you can see a bit of the shimmer in the photo on the left.

Valentine's Release from La La Land Crafts

Are you ready for a NEW RELEASE from La La Land Crafts??? Well if you are you're in luck! Today we are showcasing the gorgeous Valentine's release. Now many of you may know I don't celebrate Valentines but I LOVE the fact that the four new images and three new die sets are versatile enough to be used for many occasions!

This is "Best Friends Luka" - another cute image in a series with Luka and his best friend Tuffy - a fabulous image for boys who love their dogs! I've paired him with one of the new dies (Heart Banner) and some buttons.

Magnolia Down Under Challenge #177

This week at Magnolia Down Under Challenges we are celebrating Christmas! I've gone for something a little non-traditional - Tilda is obviously having a little Christmas gathering with friends - don't those gingerbread cookies look YUM! There's also lots of festive glitter and a little sleigh charm to finish it all off.

It's Snowing in La La Land

This week in La La Land we are using snow and/or snowflakes. I decided on a bit on Wintery fun and chose to pop Snowboard Marci onto a circular card having the time of her life as she boards down the slopes. I chose a fairly simple layout - letting the soft colours and the "snow" take centre stage. I used 3 layers of  "snow", embossing the middle one to give the effect of a well used run among the freshly fallen edges.

Christmas Stocking

Ever since I saw this gorgeous image from Mo Manning it's been on of my favourites and I couldn't get through Christmas without using her at least once! Her name is Pammy's Stocking and I have to say I am soo jealous of her gorgeous head of hair!

There are a couple of other similar images available too -  Cammy's Stocking - another little girl, plus the two boys - Jimmy's Stocking, and Timmy's Stocking.

Gold and Glitter in La La Land

This week in La La Land we are using Glitter and Gold. I tried something a little different and painted Angel Marci's wings, headband and dress details in using Gold Smooch. I had to give it a couple of layers to get a good coverage and then I let it dry for about an hour. I had planned to re-draw the detailing in on her wings with black copic liner pen but instead I used some deeper gold copics to create the shadows. The copics did "slip" a little on the slick surface but the end result was well worth the effort. The green and gold designer paper is quite glittery as the writing is done is a shimmery gold too. I didn't use any glitter as such but all the gold gives a lovely shimmer and sparkle to the card.

A Family Christmas Portrait

A few weeks ago my lovely friend Lori Boyd from By LORi Designs sent me some of her gorgeous images to have a play with. I merged 3 of them together to create a family "Christmas portrait". These guys were so much fun to colour up. I usually don't have time to colour up images that aren't from the DTs I'm on but I really must try and do it more often.

The sentiment I used is from The Craft's Meow's Season's Greetings set.

Taste of Winter

This little cutie is Taste of Winter by Mo Manning. With the stinking hot weather we had last week here in Melbourne I decided to get lost a little Winter scene and try and pretend I was cool - it didn't work - LOL.

It looks like a storm may be brewing with that dark sky and a few flakes of snow starting to fall - I don't usually colour my backgrounds but it was fun for a change. I added in some punched snowflakes as well as the printed ones for extra interest.

I love sketches because sorting out a layout is often the thing that takes the most time for me, so having it set up already makes everything that little bit easier! And when it's a fabulous sketch like this one from our very own Kylie, everything just seems to work.
