Favourite Shapes in La-La Land

This week in La-La Land we are using favourite shapes. I usually make square cards but love the look of cards with fun edges so for this challenge I went with a shaped card.

I created the background using Magicals powders on a piece of water spritzed card. I also "blew"the wet puddles around to give movement. These powders leave a gorgeous metallic sheen as well as the variation in colour. The background worked really well with the Paper Doll and die cut embellishments.

Pierrot Sprite from Aurora Wings

This little cutie patootie is Pierrot Sprite and he is new over at Aurora Wings Stamps and is available in either jpeg or png format. I popped him onto some digital designer paper using the png version before printing him out and colouring. I decided to enhance his eyebrows to make them more theatrical and added a touch of red underneath his eyes. I felt the harlequin pattern was the perfect choice since it's traditionally the pattern of mimes and clowns. This one is from Snap.Click Supply and is from Bo Bunny's Out of Print collection. The shading around him makes him pop out from the background and I was really happy with the overall result. A simple embossed background with a black ribbon wrap was all the extra embellishment the central panel needed.

Colour Inspiration in La-La Land

This week in La-La Land we are using the colour inspiration from the picture to the right. To be honest I did struggle a little with this one as most of my recent makes have involved strong colour palettes. My colours ended up a tad too red too - but the floral inspiration is there ;) I decided to stick with one patterned paper and some ivory elements to get the job done. The kimono was paper pieced in one piece and then I shaded areas using Copics to define the separate layers. I love the unity this gives the pattern without making it look flat.

Alice from Sweet Escape

I have been playing with new images again - and this time with a company I have been watching for some time but have never had the time to get colouring with.  Isn't this image gorgeous? Her name is Alice and she's from Sweet Escape Digis. I love the funky little items in her hair and that hair - wow - is it OK to have follicle envy????

Aurora Wings New Release Showcase

Today Aurora Wings are launching some new Sprites into the family and I have to admit that I had a heap of fun with these. You can check out all the DT projects and image links for this release on the Aurora Wings Showcase blog HERE.

First up we have the Venus Fly Trap Sprite. The little fly was too cute not to include so I cut him out separately and added a thin strip of acetate to make him hover moments away from his demise! I also cut out an extra shape in plain white of both the sprite image and the fly so they could be backed neatly as this is a 3D project.

The pot was made using a file from the Silhouette store and was cut on my Cameo. I then padded out the inside before attaching the sprite. To finish off I mixed some decor rocks with glue and adding a layer across the top to give it a proper potted plant feel. A ribbon and tag completed the project.

And for the second image - the Praying Mantis Sprite - I created a little garden in a shadow box frame so it could try to hide amongst the leaves. The frame was designed and cut using my Cameo and then I added some garden designer paper behind the cut out leaves to add more depth.

Aurora "Explore"

I've had this fabulous image from The East Wind for a while and am so happy I finally got to colour it up. This is Aurora "Explore" and how cute is that little mouse sitting on her cap!

I cut the image with it's border out with my Cameo and then cut the 2 matching mats out too. I love the machine for the ease of matting shapes. The background was done by smooshing the first 3 background colours together and then dripping on some colourless blender. The greys were used to add a shadow around the image.

I m having sooo much fun clouring up some different images - watch this space - there are more to come :)

Gypsy Dancer

I managed to get this gorgeous image by Simply Betty Stamps called Gypsy Dancer coloured up late last week. But the weekend was about family so sadly she sat on my desk awaiting her chance to be popped onto a card. Well I've finally managed to find time and here she is - housework isn't THAT important is it????

I popped the image over the top of a digi paper before printing to create the background. I LOVE these mixed media designs from Bearly Mine but sadly the store shut down with the new VAT laws that came into place in the UK. I did notice that there were a couple of white areas around the image where the paper should have been so I just coloured them up with copics to hide them.

Copics Used - E29, E11, E00, E000, R29, R27, R24, R22, R20, R11, C10, C7, C5, C3, C2, 100, YR24, YR23, Y19, Y15, Y02, YG67, YG09, YG05, B97, B34, B21, Sakura clear glitter gelly roll pen.

Flags or Bunting in La-La Land

This week in La-La Land we are using Flags or Bunting. I've made a boy's card using one of the fabulous new Luka images. And YES - I put FLOWERS on a boy's card. I think because they are scrunched and a bit grungy, and also because I added some stenciled bubble texture to the background, that it just seems to work. The overall effect isn't too busy or feminine. I hope you like it too.

I used a homemade texture paste for the stenciling - here's the recipe I used..

1 part paint (I used white acrylic)
one part talcum powder (I used a scented one as it's all I had and love the way it smells when you're working with it!)
1/2 part glue (I used PVA)

Mix everything together and store in an airtight container.

Mermaid out of Water

You may be wondering why I have been colouring up a few images from Simply Betty Stamps recently. Well Betty has challenged herself to do a drawing a day for the month of February and early in the month she gave us a chance to buy the package sight unseen - you can still buy it HERE. From the few I had already seen I decided to go for it and in a first for me I have ACTUALLY COLOURED some up rather than just filing them away on my computer "for later!"

This is the STUNNING Mermaid out of Water. I loved colouring all the different textures - the stormy sky, the rock, the waves and her scales. There is a touch of the Little Mermaid with her red locks but I love the constrast that gave.

Copics Used - E43, E42, E40, E29, E11, E08, E00, E000, R24, R20, R11, YR21, YR16, C3, C2, C1, C00, BV13, BV08, BV04, BV02, BV01, BV0000, BG75, BG45, BG23, BG01, BG000, B97, B93, B12, B01, B000, clear sparkle Spica gelly roll pen, warm white acrylic paint, white Sharpie paint pen

Lucille

Meet Lucille by Simply Betty Stamps - isn't she fabulous! I have had a a bit of fun lately colouring up some images I don't usually get time to play with and I have to say I have thoroughly enjoyed it - as much as I love the DT's I am currently on :)

I created Lucille's background using copics which I coloured on randomly in a camouflage type of pattern and then I dripped on some colourless blender. I love this technique and it looks great in all sorts of different colourways.

Copics Used - 100, C4, C2, C1, C00, E25, E11, E00, E00, R29, R24, B06, B04, B01, Y26, Y21, YR24, BG78, BG07, BG05, BG01, BG000, W5, W3, W1, Y17, Y11, Clear Spica gelly roll
