Magnolia Down Under Challenge #203

This week at Magnolia Down Under Challenges we are asking you to use FLOWERS - our lovely teamie Louise's choice. I needed a little gift box so used my Sizzix die to cut a pillow box and then I decorated it using a Mini World Tilda and some Doo-Hickey Dies. I tried to keep the colour palette simple in Kraft and White so my mini Tilda would shine amongst the flowers.

Summer Fun in La-La Land

Sketch Time in La-La Land

This week in La-La Land we are using this fabulous sketch designed by my teamie Faye. As you can see I twisted it by 90o - it just seemed to work better for me. I was happy with how this one turned out - the diecuts added just the right amount of framing for this cute little Marci.

Anything Goes....

I have wanted to use this hanging heart Tilda for some time so decided to stamp her off and colour her up. I am also enjoying playing with paper clay and silicon moulds - these ones are from Martha Stewart. I liked the thought of Tilda framing the heart to emphasise it - along with some sparkle.

Father's Day in La-La Land

We're celebrating Father's Day in La-La Land today - but since we Aussies don't celebrate it here until September I am well and truly ahead of the game. I just have to remember I have this card when September does come around - LOL.

I wanted to showcase the gorgeous dies La-La Land have so went with a sort of mixed media feel - something I've been itching to do properly. This poem has always appealed to me with it's honesty and I thought it was the perfect fit. I hope you liked my dabbling in a new style....I think I need a wee bit of practice but I'm sure to have some fun along the way when I do ;)

Sending a Little Get Well Spell...

Recently I was introduced to a digi stamp company I hadn't seen before and they have some really cute images - Lacy Sunshine Stamps. I bought a couple and actually PRINTED one out - oh the joys of having some spare crafting time!!! This cutie is Eleanor's Trick or Treat Flight. Being a wearer of glasses myself I just couldn't resist. And even though she's probably meant for Halloween we don't really celebrate that here in Australia so I thought I would use her to cast a get well spell for a dear friend of mine.

Cameo Marci

This week in La La Land we had an inspiration photo of Vintage Cupcakes to play with. I went a little left of centre with this one and decided to use the cameos on top of the cupcake as my inspiration and I decided to do Marci as a cameo. I searched high and low for some hints and tips but couldn't find any so I took a deep breath and gave it a go! This is what I LOVE about challenging myself - I am REALLY happy with the result and would never have done this without the challenge!

Some tips if you want to try this yourself...

- stamp or print your image with pale lines, you want your shading to create the cameo effect. Some pale lines showing are OK as they add definition.

- start shading light and build up as you go, many areas here have been left white

- print off a cameo picture to help guide you with the look if you feel you need it, I had two different ones sitting by my side.

- make the background a deeper colour so it gives your image more POP and dimension

- Experiment and HAVE FUN!

Magnolia Down Under Challenge #199

This week at Magnolia Down Under Challenges we are asking you to "Bling it Baby". Sparkle - a girl's best friend ;)

I recently bought this older style Tilda so got her all inked her up. I have to say there is something really appealing about these gals - they have a certain innocence I love. For my bling I added shabby pink frantage powder to the birdcage, rhinestone lace, glitter to Tilda's wings and 2 sparklets to the right hand corners - this really does glitter beautifully IRL but with a gloomy Winter's day here it's hard to photograph any sparkle at all!
