Happy Birthday with La La Land Crafts

This week over at La La Land Crafts we are celebrating brithdays. I decided to use the gorgeous Telephone Marci as I know how often I used to pick up the phone to call people on their birthdays - although with technology changing I admit these days I usually send an sms or a message on FB - LOL.

One of the things I LOVE about La La Land stamps is the fun you can have with mixing colouring and paper piecing. I usually chose my DP first and then colour up the rest of the image to match - the paper pieces go on last.

Don't forget to check out the rest of the Birthday Fun by the LLLC DT over on our BLOG.

Mo's Amazing "Come Hither"

When this image first came all out all he was popping up all over Blog Land and I thought I would bide my time and colour him up later - he's just such a fabulous image that I KNEW I would have to play sometime though - LOL! In case you've never met him his name is "Come Hither" and he's by Mo Manning.

I kept the layout of the card fairly simple letting the DP do most of the work. After all - who needs distraction when looking at this guy with his smouldering good looks and flowing cape! The gold embellishment is one of a pair of clip on ear-rings I found at my local Op Shop (Thrift Store) - a GREAT place for finding bits and pieces cheaply!

Fun in the Sun with La La Land Crafts

This week at La La Land Crafts we are having some Fun in the Sun. I thought some bright colours and some sunglasses would be just the ticket - and with her umbrella in hand too Marci is ready for any weather. She must be a Melbourne girl - we can often have 4 seasons in one day here - LOL. Although many people do use umbrella's to keep the hot sun off too.

Check out the amazing work from the rest of the LLLC team on our BLOG.

It's Mo's Dream Team Blog Hop Time

As our wonderful team leader Jak says "Hold on to your hats ladies as it's that time again" - yup it's time for Mo Manning's Dream Team to get together and play. This month's theme is Ethnic Skin Tones and the gals are all saying it's MY fault as I am this month's host - LOL. I'm the start of the hop so you are in the right place to get going - and there are a couple of Mo prizes along the way too.

I thought this would be a fabulous theme as Mo has some absolutely gorgeous ethnic images - and some that can work either in light or dark skintones - and I wanted to highlight these. I chose one of my favourite images to play with - Sadie with Apples (available from Mo's old store)

Your next stop on the hop is the always marvellous Mina - but remember to check out the Dream Team Blog for regular inspiration.

In case you get lost the blog hop order is....
Debbie, Mina, Pops, Jak, Gretha, Kerttu, Jane, Julie, Heidy, Alice
(click on their links on my left sidebar if you need them - under Mo's banner)

A Little Graduation Gift

I just realised I haven't shown you this little box I made! Recently my friend's daughter graduated from her university course and I wanted to give her a little gift. I found this little Graduation Cap Box in the Silhouette store and cut it out with my Cameo. I felt it needed a little something so I added some flowers, ribbon and pearls - before filling it with some gourmet jelly beans.

It's quite a clever little box because the ribbon handle is attached to the base of the box so the lid won't fall off while you're carrying it!

Tickled Pink Stamps is Sponsoring Cupcake Craft

This week Tickled Pink Stamps is proudly sponsoring Cupcake Craft Challenges and I think most of the Pink Ladies have had to find where they had hidden their eyelets in their crafting space because using them in your project is the challenge - LOL.

I had the idea to add a tag onto a card - and use a large eyelet to hang a tassle from. I chose the adorable Lil Fashionette 20s Evie to use and tried to go for more vintage colours. I mixed and matched some DPs and added some blue touches for fun.

Copics used - Skintones (R20, R11, E21, E11, E000) plus R24, E87, E84, E81, E43, E42, E40, B93, B91, B06, B000, Y19, Y0000, T0

Magnolia Down Under Challenge #151

This week at Magnolia Down Under Challenges we are asking you to play BINGO with us... I went straight down the middle column of the bingo card using a dies (the banners), cheesecloth and Tilda! I sat Bee Tilda on a gorgeous ornate layered bridge lasercut from Scrapmatts - an Aussie company who create amazing things for cardmakers and scrapbookers alike.

You can check out the rest of our amazing DT inspiration on our BLOG - we hope to see you coming along to play!!

Copics used - Skintones (R20, R11, E11, E00, E000) plus YR31, YR30, Y0000, R01, R11, E23, E25, E29, E43, E44

Tickled Pink Stamps is Sponsoring Send a Smile For The Kids

This week Tickled Pink Stamps is proudly sponsoring the Send a Smile For The Kids challenge where they are asking you to create some "Birthday Fun For Kids". I used the gorgeous Lil Little Lolita Kellita for my card - she is certainly one of my faves! The corners are lasercut chipboard from Make it Crafty and I've used my AMAZING gel pens from Scrapmatts to coat them - these pens give such a FABULOUS layer of colour and shine with just one coat!

I wanted to mention a little more about the Send a Smile for the Kids group as they are more that just a challenge blog - they craft with a real purpose. They are a charitable blog created for the purpose of collecting donated handmade cards to be distributed to children while they are inpatient at Children’s Hospitals. Currently they are donating them to the several different Children’s Hospitals. On any given day, there are many children inpatient in these hospitals so they would love to receive as many cards as you can send to cheer them and their families. The kids may also use your cards as Thank You Notes to the nurses and doctors and to give to parents or relatives on special days like birthdays or Mothers or Fathers Day. Any cards appropriate for children are welcome including any holiday (not religious specific please) and happy anyday cards. For more information, please click on Guidelines for Donated Cards Tab.

Circle Shadow Box

The divine Zoe from Make it Crafty has a mind that never seems to stop! Recently she showed us a shadow box she had designed and cut out on her laser cutter and one of my teamies suggested a round one would be fun! Within a couple of hours she was showing us the finished product!!! Of course I HAD to have one to play with and I picked it up from Zoe last weekend when I was in Brisbane for the Scrapbooking and Papercraft Expo. It also comes with the stand which I've just realised I should have painted too - oopsie!

Zoe also gave me some of her newest chipboard embellishments and I used some of them here too - painting them with some dark brown glaze to make them pop - although I gilded the cage in gold gel pen - it really sparkles under light but sadly looks a little dull in my photo! I cut the branches apart to arrange them as I wanted - don't be scared to do this if it suits your project - I do this with pearl flourishes too.

I used some silicon to pop the branches up a bit and then 3 layers of double sided tape for my image - it really gives the project some depth.

I spritzed the background with brown on one side - I did this before I glued the frame together so I didn't end up with spray where I didn't want it - well on my project anyway - it's ALL over my desk - LOL.

Here is a close up of the gorgeous fairy image I used - I went with soft tonings as she's such a delicate little miss.

Something for Dad from La La Land Crafts

Our theme for this week over at La La Land Crafts is "Something for Dad". I chose Lil Rocker Luka as many dads just love their ol' time rock and roll. ACDC is often blaring out of the speakers in my house if my hubby gets a chance to choose the music - much to the disgust of the kids as he starts tunelessly singing away - LOL. I cut the cassette - you remember those right???? - using my silhouette cameo - the pattern is in their store. I figured since most dads would be from the cassette era this may appeal to them - LOL.

Check out the awesome creations from the rest of the DT on our blog HERE.

Working Around the House

My hubby has been doing some work around the house recently and I couldn't help but colour this little guy up so he could help out - LOL. This is "Fixer Boy" by Mo Manning. I do tend to struggle with boy's cards - my fingers itch to pop on a few flowers, but my 13yo son is my voice of reason and he gave this the thumbs up!

My daughter also had some input - she told me to "dirty up" his overalls - I think she's seen too much of her father's work clothes to think overalls should ever be clean - LOL.

Some Sunshine to Scare Away Melbourne's Winter

I hope you don't mind a bit of brightness in your day today! It's Winter here in Melbourne and the weather is cold, wet and windy! I just needed a bit of sunshine in my day and what better way than to craft some - LOL.

This is the gorgeous Abby Celebrating by Mo Manning and her joyous dance was a perfect pick-me-up for the Winter doldrums. I cut the frame out using my Cameo from a pattern available in the Silhouette Store. My DP is from Basic Grey.

I'm Back in La La Land and We Are Showcasing the Fabulous New Dies

Now for some EXCITING news - well for me at least - LOL. The gorgeous Irina Blount asked me if I'd like to join the DT over at La La Land Crafts!!!!! I had such a blast over there when I was a GDT some time ago and I'm just THRILLED to be back - especially as I'll be MEETING Irina and Eric in Brisbane this coming weekend when they head on Downunder. Wooohooooo - excitement plus! I'll be joining two of the other Aussie LLLC DT gals  up there too - can't WAIT!

And now onto business....my first official post is a Showcase of the NEW DIES from La La Land . These are just gorgeous and I was soo happy when a couple arrived in my mailbox. This one is obviously the Eiffel Tower - and I double cut it and layered it up to give a shadow effect. I've used the adorable Travel Marci - including her sentiment and passport - she's all set to go!

I used a Prima paper pad for the background, the paper piecing and the lighter die cut - I'm really happy with the subtle tones and patterns I ended up with.

UPDATE - To kick off the new dies release La La Land are having a 10% off sale for 2 days only. June 4th and 5th. The discount code for the sale is INTRO10

Unfortunately at this time LLLC is not shipping their dies to Australia and New Zealand. If you are in Australia or New Zealand please contact your local craft store to purchase the dies. If you need to find store location, please email Copic X-Press at jacqui@xpressgraphx.com.au and they will be happy to assist you.

Magnolia Down Under Challenge #149

This week at Magnolia Down Under Challenges we are "seeing double" - you need to use 2 of the same thing - like 2 ribbons, 2 images (like a mini and bigger version of the same image) or whatever - just as long as there is 2 of them!!

I used the same image - big and mini versions - and also made 2 rolled roses out of the gingham DP. This has quite a bit of shimmer on it - shame it doesn't photograph well!
